Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP)

The mission of the student chapter of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy is to encourage education, development and promotion of the principles and practices of managed care pharmacy. The Mercer chapter was founded in 1997.

American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP)

President: Jancie Hatcher
Advisors: Christine Klein

Also known as American's Senior Care Pharmacists, this organization is dedicated to the advancement of the practice of pharmaceutical care for the senior population and people with chronic illness. The year 2000 marked the first year for the ASCP student chapter at Mercer. All Pharm.D. students, residents, fellows, and graduate students are welcome to join.

Academy of Student Pharmacists (ASP/APhA)
President: Hillary Volsteadt
Advisor: Grady Strom, Gina Ryan

ASP is one of the three main branches of the American Pharmaceutical Association (APhA). APhA is to the pharmacist what the American Medical Association is to the physician. Its purpose is to provide the pharmacist with a forum to express his/her views concerning pharmacy and to insure that he/she has a voice in determining the future directions that the profession will take. ASP is by far the largest of the student organizations at the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, representing over 75% of the entire student body. Membership in the Georgia Pharmacy Association (GPhA) is automatic with membership in ASP.

Among chapters at the 89 pharmacy schools in the country, Mercer's chapter of ASP has received for six years the highest award presented by the American Pharmaceutical Association. Recognition for being the most outstanding chapter in the nation, based on competition for numerous service and academic projects performed by our students, was given at the national conventions in Anaheim, CA, in 1989; in Washington, D.C., in 1990; in New Orleans, LA, in 1991; in Dallas, TX, in 1993; in Miami Beach, FL, in 1998, and in Washington, D.C., in 2000. The chapter received awards for placing as second runner-up in national competition at conventions in Orlando, FL, in 1995; in Nashville, TN, in 1996; in Los Angeles, CA, in 1997. NATIONAL OFFICERS:

Christian Pharmacist Fellowship International (CPFI)
President: Chloe Ledford
Advisor: Justine Gortney

CPFI is an interdenominational organization which provides an opportunity for students to meet together for Christian fellowship. A variety of speakers are presented at meetings including ministers from local churches, pharmacists, faculty members, and students. Occasionally CPFI sponsors lunches and other fellowship gatherings. CPFI is always open to and welcomes all students, faculty, and staff.

Council of Students (COS)

The Council of Students is the organization composed of and representing the student body acting as a liaison between faculty/administration and the students. It is comprised of the presidents and a COS representative from all student organizations and an elected representative from each class at the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The COS also has an executive council consisting of the president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and representative-at-large.

Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists (GSHP)/
American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP)

The Georgia Society of Health-System Pharmacists/American Society of Health-System Pharmacists are state and national organizations which promote the practice of pharmacy in organized health-care settings including areas outside of traditional hospital practice. Membership in these associations provide an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to the many different practice settings available as well as to meet pharmacists actively engaged in these diverse career paths.

Inter-Fraternity Council (IFC)
President: Jessi Jones

The Inter-Fraternity Council consists of three members from each of the professional pharmaceutical fraternities on campus. It is the student regulatory body for all member fraternities at the College. Its purpose is to provide for the general welfare; promote scholastic, professional, social and recreational activities; and insure the cooperation of its member fraternities. The IFC also acts to interpret the fraternity system of this college to the administration and faculty and to the community in order for the fraternities to function in an atmosphere of healthy approval from the University authorities and the general public.

Kappa Epsilon

Kappa Epsilon (KE) is a national pharmaceutical fraternity, and one of three professional fraternities at Mercer. The fraternity was founded on the basis of promoting women in pharmacy. The Alpha Delta chapter of KE at Mercer has a membership of over one hundred women pharmacy students. Also associated with the fraternity are eighteen big brothers, faculty associates, and faculty alumni members.

Kappa Psi is a national fraternity composed of approximately forty male pharmacy students. Also affiliated with the fraternity are approximately twenty little sisters, faculty associates, and faculty alumni members.

National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA), Student Chapter
President: Johnathan Hamrick

This organization is dedicated to preserving the practice of independent community pharmacy. The Mercer chapter of American College of Apothecaries (ACA) was chartered in 1978 as the first student chapter. In 1991, the Mercer chapter became the first combined ACA/NARD (National Association of Retail Druggists) Chapter. In 1996, the chapter adopted the NCPA name. All students are encouraged to become members and participate in activities which include visiting local independent community pharmacies; providing community health services; and bridging the gap between the academic and practical aspects of pharmacy. Members are kept aware of current topics in the practice of pharmacy through numerous publications from the parent organization.

Phi Delta Chi

Phi Delta Chi (PDC) is a national pharmaceutical fraternity composed of both male and female members. PDC is the only co-ed fraternity at the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. The Alpha Rho chapter of PDC has an average membership of sixty-five. Also part of the fraternity are faculty associates and faculty alumni members.

Phi Lambda Sigma is the pharmacy leadership society. It was established to recognize those individuals in the student body who, through leadership and conscientious service, have contributed to the professional advancement of pharmacy.

Rho Chi

The fundamental objective of Rho Chi has always been to promote the advancement of the pharmaceutical sciences through the encouragement and recognition of sound scholarship. High standards of intellectual and scholarly attainments have been demanded for election to membership. All candidates selected for membership must have completed ten quarters, or the equivalent, of scholastic work applicable toward a professional pharmacy degree. They must be in the top twenty percent of their class and have attained a "B" average in both their overall college/university pre-professional coursework and in their professional pharmacy college coursework.
