About the Program

Mercer University is pleased to offer a professional program in physical therapy which awards the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. The program, part of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, is offered on the Cecil B. Day Graduate and Professional Campus in Atlanta, Georgia.

This innovative eight-semester program provides a comprehensive entry-level professional education, including an integrated clinical education track that consists of service-learning, clinical experiences, and clinical internships.  Mercer DPT students are actively engaged in patient/client-related activities each semester.  Built upon an integrated traditional model, the DPT curriculum provides a strong foundation in basic, applied, and physical therapy science courses.  The curriculum and course offerings are available for your review.

Please review our vision, mission, core values, and program goals and profile of the Mercer Doctor of Physical Therapy graduate for an overview of the professional physical therapy program.

Accreditation

Mercer’s Physical Therapy program has been granted Candidate for Accreditation status by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education of the American Physical Therapy Association (1111 North Fairfax Street, Alexandria, VA 22314; phone 703-706-3245; email accreditation@apta.org).  Candidacy is not an accreditation status nor does it assure eventual accreditation.  Candidate for Accreditation is a pre-accreditation status of affiliation with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education that indicates the program is progressing toward accreditation.  Mercer University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral degrees.

Faculty

Currently, the Department includes twelve core faculty, ten full-time members and two part-time members.  All are physical therapists licensed to practice in the State of Georgia.  Together, they have a combined 150 years of clinical experience and 70 years of academic teaching experience.   All are members of the American Physical Therapy Association.

The Department also includes a cadre of part-time adjunct clinical assistant and associate professors.  Additionally, residents in the orthopaedic and neurologic post-professional programs serve as clinical instructors during their 12-month programs of study.
